Crawling back to the starting line
Another year has come and gone. Here we are, right smack dab in the last week of February. So how did 2010 turn out? Not at all how I expected, that's for sure.
Here's the quick and dirty...
Trained for Mooseman like a good little triathlete.
In April EV and I went to Atlanta for a great friend's wedding and I dutifully found a race to run.
Did too much in San Francisco: too much wine, too much food, too much activity, and not enough sleep. The weekend itself was awesome - cycling through wine country, visiting with family and friends, riding over the Golden Gate Bridge - all great. The final event of our weekend was the 99th running of the Bay to Breakers. I ran it to personal perfection - exactly 10 minute miles for the 12 K run, half uphill and half downhill. Felt so good that we decided to join a friend on her trail jog back to the start (another 6.5 miles). Big mistake. I hit my wall. So, 3 weeks before Mooseman, I was diagnosed with Mono - which may or may not be chronic since I get the same illness whenever I'm run down. Doc said no Moosey. Phooey.
The rest of my summer, fall, and winter have been spent trying to recover. I salvaged what I could by completing a couple of local sprints, 5k runs, and one Warrior Dash. Mostly though I turned into a lump. So I'm crawling out of my lumpy hole and I've started swimming again, running again - slowly, not biking yet but that'll come.
On the plus side, we had some great trips in 2010 - Baltimore, Atlanta, New Hampshire (twice), Maine, Orlando, NYC (a few times), Montreal, San Francisco and our annual trip up the northway to Schroon Lake. EV and I unfortunately traveled to Louisiana for my dear uncle's funeral.
The rest of the year was a blur and overall a good year. We bought a house, down the street from sister, so we're officially home town folk. We lost Trish the dog but remember her fondly. Elise is convinced that she's in Florida, by the way, not heaven. And time marches on.
Next up: I'm preparing for a tonsillectomy... at 35. The surgery is scheduled and my mommy is coming to care for me in the early days of recovery.
