EagleMan 70.3 Race Report 2017 Part 1

Swan Song (noun)  a person's final public performance or professional activity before retirement. When I finished MusselMan last year (DoubleMussel), I decided that it was time to take a break from long course triathlon.  My back hurt, my body ached, and my back hurt.  With my issues at the L5/S1 vertebrae, 56 miles on the bike is grueling.  So, I logged my results in my hand IM Goal Chart and... 9.  9 finish times for the Half Ironman distance.  I can't stop at 9!  So I thought about it and in the fall, signed up for Eagleman.  Eagleman is an early season race (risky) but the course is pancake flat.  Not easy, as there are headwinds, crosswinds, current, and heat, but flat.  I told J that I was going for number 10 and then I'd be done.  So, after 12 years, 2 cancelled events, 9 Half Irons and 1 Aquabike, Eagleman was to be my swan song.   Nerd Alert:  70.3 Distance Results and Goal Charts   As per usual, I...

Boilermaker...here we come!

For the last several years, we have spent the weekend after the 4th of July in Geneva NY for the Musselman Triathlon festival.  For the last several years, the Boilermaker 15K in Utica, NY has fallen on the same weekend.  Not this year!  First, we decided not to do Musselman this year and second, the weekends don't coincide anyway.  Today I registered both husband and I for this race.  It's supposedly hot, and crowded, and a bit hilly, but it's also supposedly a GREAT time.  Plus we know others who will be running and it's always more fun to have familiar faces in the crowd.  This means that we have yet another event to add to our calendar.  That's all fine with me.  I'm feeling good right now and feel the need to take advantage of that.  With the babies, back injuries, and other circumstances, it just seems right to go out there and grab it when I can.  My pace is coming back, my strength is coming back and I'm actually enjoyin...

Virtuals, Muds, and Mom Proms, Oh My!

I can not believe that tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  What I really can't believe is that BOTH of my kids filled out ALL their Valentine's Day cards a full day early.  They're ahead of me.  I haven't done a single thing...except buy E festive socks.  That was only because she was in the grocery store with me and they caught her eye.  Hubby and I made plans for family Chinese takeout and chilling at home.  Doesn't that sound delightful! I'm instead busy planning the year.  In the last 2 weeks I've registered for a virtual race, a mud run, a triathlon, and a mom prom (because sometimes you have to dance rather than run).  I blame cabin fever.  Seriously, between the snow we've had over the past week and the stomach bug making it's rounds with my kids, I've been a little antsy. First up is the virtual race.  I'm super excited about this! It's 3/1 but we're running on 3/4.  And we get this pretty medal... And this also happened....

Every blog but this blog

I realized that I've been updating my work blogs (sporadically but at least annually) and I've neglected this one.  Well... I've decided to reactivate! This mom is still trying to stay fit in upstate NY and that quest has been pretty successful.  Still hanging in the middle to the back of the pack but I'm hanging and that is the achievement.  I've had babies, injuries, illness, moves, SNOW (oh man there has been so much snow) but I am still at it.  2017 is already shaping up to be a busy and exciting year.  I'm a Skirt Sports ambassador (yay!) and started a local chapter of Moms RUN This Town so that's going to keep me busy in my spare time.  I have a few races already planned but the biggie is Eagleman 70.3 in June.  It's my 10th 70.3 and I'm planning to break from long course when it is over.  I think 10 is a good number.  Everything until then will be training (a few 5ks, 10ks and 1 half marathon this spring) and then I'll spend my s...
